En situaciones que someten el cuerpo al estr\u00e9s fisiol\u00f3gico, como en casos de cirug\u00eda o enfermedad grave, las necesidades energ\u00e9ticas cambian.<a class=\"bibliography-sup\" title=\"Fletcher J. Esto mantiene los procesos fisiol\u00f3gicos funcionando normalmente hasta que el aporte nutricional se \u00a0restablezca. Sin embargo, durante el proceso de estr\u00e9s, el cuerpo reacciona de manera diferente. La respuesta del cuerpo al estr\u00e9s implica distintos cambios en los niveles hormonales, lo que aumenta el GER y, consecuentemente, las necesidades energ\u00e9ticas durante la enfermedad cr\u00edtica.
